Resisting and Protecting Yourself

This is a list of ways to get help, in case you're threatened by the new administration. It's Maryland-centric, but if you live in another state and need help, add a link to the source in the comments below.

General:
The ACLU is great at combating bigotry in many forms. They also have a Maryland chapter. They’ve promised to combat Donald’s policies and they’ve got local organizations in every state. They can find you a lawyer, help you lobby your local government, get you in touch with other people who can help you--they are the Jedi.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is another big social justice organization. They deal with criminal justice, immigrant justice, LGBT rights, children--a good place to have bookmarked.

The Resistance Manual--outlines the actions being taken to take Donald and his cronies on.

LGBT Rights:
Maryland's chapter of the Human Rights campaign

Transgender Lifeline: (877) 565-8860

Trevor Project Lifeline: 866-488-7386

Immigration:
Engages in lawsuits that defend the constitutional rights of all Americans, provides legal council to those who need it--does not offer lawyers but can recommend you to some.

Lots of young people are refugees or immigrants. Here, they can get lawyers, education and general support.

Hate Crimes:
Definitely report hate crimes to the Southern Poverty Law Center. They record every report every incident they get and track the hate groups that commit them.

Official Maryland hate crime hotline: 1-866-481-8361

Sexual Assault:
Call here if you’ve been a victim of sexual violence or abuse. They help people who have been victims of sexual violence, regardless of race, gender or age.

National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233

Mental Health:
Remember, first off, that you deserve to live. No matter what Donald or anyone else says.

National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255
